Teddy Bear Reading

My task for yesterday: a teddy reading a book under a bent tree. Simple scene, but I like how cheerful it turned out.

Magnolia Twice

I got a bit tired of snow and frost… so just for a change, something blooming. Based on a photo, of course. Two little pictures, about 16 cm, or 6 inches high. This way my big sheet of paper was used to the very end!

Tree Spirits

xxxtreespiritsI have opened “Finn Family Moomintroll” lately and on first pages of the book I have found something I have never noticed before: “the Spirits that haunted the trees sat combing their long hair”. Moomintroll and his friends met the tree spirits in the morning when they woke up from their winter sleep. They were heading towards the mountain, were magic hat was waiting for them (but this they did not know). I have seen many illustrations to “Finn Family” but has anyone ever drawn tree spirits?

Old House in Neighbourhood

This house stands maybe 100 meters from my own house, nobody lives there. Good example of traditional farmhouse building in this area. Only straw on the roof was replaced with eternit panels, probably in 1950s or 1960s. The whole village got modernized this way.

The picture was requested by a friend of my friend. She lived in this house as a kid, or maybe she just used to come  here to visit her grandparents; I’m not sure. Anyway the house is her family’s heritage. The lady strongly prefers to have a picture of her family house on the wall then actually live in it 🙂

Sleeping Beauty in Blue Ink

xxxbluefairytaleOne more fairytale princess. Fairytales and tea are best remedy for heavy winter. Blue and black ink, white gouache.

The Princess And the Frog

xxxfrogprincessTesting a new block of watercolor paper. Cheap product from local manufacturer. For Derwent pencils, not bad. For watercolor – well, this company is no danger to Winsor & Newton yet.

xxxziiolaLooks like summer, doesn’t it? I was asked to paint herbs so I have checked my last years’ photos and a book about gardening and I have chosen a few plants. This is pure fantasy. Outside there’s nothing but snow.

Moomins’ Kitchen

I suppose everybody is washing up today, now when guests are gone, so this is quite up-to-date picture. But it wasn’t made to celebrate the 1st of January, it was for A. and K. We are all Moomin fans. Let it be a good beginning of 2017.
