Grandfather’s House

This is where Marta’s grandfather lived. The house is still fine and more or less preserved in original state, Marta sent me some photos as a reference. I wonder what happened to the chimney; here in Jura Upland many similar old houses survived and they all have chimneys. Generally, from XIV century there were chimneys  everywhere, even though they were taxed in these old times; tax collectors had no patience to  record numerous farmers’ children, so instead of counting people, they counted chimneys.  Funny, now chimney tax – some version of – is considered again, because of  CO2 problem. Was Grandpa aware of global warming? No hint of the chimney in the photos, anyway. Grandfather's House
